Model turned actress, Preeti Jhangiani was born on 18th August 1980. When she first made her entry into the world of greasepaint, as the wispy chhui mui girl in a music video, everyone whispered, "Who's that girl?" And when she made it to the list of three newcomers to be introduced in the eternal romantic Yash Chopra's star bonanza, Mohobbatein, cine-goers knew that Preeti Jhangiani had arrived. Out of the three girls who debuted in the film, Preeti, as critics and audiences professed, gained most out of the mileage. Her goody-two-shoes image, her delicate profile, Preeti seemed to fit hand-in-glove for the role of most conventional Hindi films. Soon, producers started queuing outside her house with scripts and signing amounts.

And predictably, within a couple of months, Preeti had signed over twelve films. Much would have been expected to happen in this stunner's life. And much indeed did happen. Like a whip of rotten luck, she fell ill, the after effects of which turned the course of her life. The strong antibiotics she consumed left rather harsh effects of her angelic visage. One of the reasons being weight fluctuations. And almost overnight, the films disappeared. Such is the fickleness of fame and fortune.

But Preeti didn't lose heart. She stayed put and did the best she could to sustain the career that had fallen into the eye of a hurricane. Meanwhile, Feroz Nadiadwala's Awara Paagal Deewana happened. The colossal hit came with the promise of sunshine, but proved to be a fluke.

From film sources are to be believed, Preeti is all set to tie the nuptial knot with (Feroz Nadiadwala's younger brother) Mustaq. Preeti Jhangiani's hobbies are watching romantic movies, web browsing and listening music.

'Salaam-e-Ishq' – Salutation to love!
06th Jan 2006

As a director, Nikhil Advani had his ‘dream debut’ directing a film for a prestigious banner like Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. This year, he will return with a bigger project.

Nikhil did not disappoint with his debut directorial venture Kal Ho Na Ho . For, not only was the film, starring Shah Rukh Khan , Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta , a box-office success in India as well as abroad but it also won tremendous critical acclaim for its innovative storyline and its brilliant storyline. In fact, the film was selected for the Oscar’s library for its ‘innovative storyline’, a rare honour for an Indian film.

Now, Nikhil’s second directorial venture Salaam-e-Ishq A Tribute To Love’ is also creating a tremendous buzz in film circles for its unique cast.

The film, which was launched last month with a non-stop ‘star-to-finish’ schedule, stars six pairs, which means six actors and six actresses. A unique feature of the film is its never before pairing of actors who have hitherto never been featured opposite each other.

While the film pairs teenage heartthrob Salman Khan with Priyanka Chopra , it has actor Anil Kapoor cast opposite Juhi Chawla , Akshay Khanna opposite Ayesha Takia , John Abraham opposite Vidya Balan , Govinda with a foreign actress and Sohail Khan in pairing with Perizaad Zorabian .

While the ‘pairings’ in the film have evoked tremendous curiosity for the film in trade circles, it is also said to feature all the actors in images far removed from their portrayals in Bollywood films till now.

Although all the actors associated with the film are unwilling to reveal details about the film’s storyline, having been sworn to secrecy by the filmmaker, all of them seem to be quite excited about their work in the film.

Talking to a news agency, one of the film’s lead actors Ayesha Takia said, “I was mesmerised by the script the moment Nikhil narrated it to me. Although I am not allowed to reveal anything about my character in the film, I can say that it is something I have never been offered before. Naturally, I am quite excited and looking forward to work with him.”

'Morning Raga' not nominated for Oscar
04th Jan 2006

Contrary to popular belief, the Perizaad Zorabian - Shabana Azmi film Morning Raga has not been nominated for Oscar awards.

Scotching reports that his film had secured an Oscar nomination, playwright and filmmaker Mahesh Dattani has said the film had been merely submitted for consideration in the mainstream awards category of the annual Academy Awards.

"There is a lot of misinformation going on that it has been nominated for the Oscars. It hasn't," the Mumbai-based Dattani said in New Delhi. "The submission has been accepted by the Academy and it is among the 300-odd films whose applications meet the criteria."

Interestingly, ‘Morning Raga’ would not be crossing swords with Amol Palekar 's Paheli -- India's official nominee in the Best Foreign Language Film category -- but has the unenviable task of taking on Hollywood biggies to secure a nomination in the Oscar 'Best Picture' category.

The film would also be trying its luck in categories like Best Actress, Best Music and Best Director.

The nominations for the 78th edition of the Academy Awards are scheduled to be announced on January 31 this year.

The 5798 nomination ballots are currently with members of the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and they hold the key to the films, which will walk away with the honours at the official awards ceremony on March 5, 2006.

The critically acclaimed ‘Morning Raga’, depicts the coming together of the modern and traditional forms of music.

However, the film lost out to ‘Paheli’ -- Palekar's saga of a ghost who falls in love with a Rajasthani bride -- as India's official nomination for the Oscars.
